Maintenence tips for better fuel economy
Published by admin on Tagged TipsHere are a few of our basic maintenence tips to increase fuel economy that most people should be able to implement.
Use correct tyre pressures.
Keeping your tyre pressures at the recommended inflation for the vehicle load is probably one of the simplist and most effective ways to avoid using excessive fuel. Basically if the pressure is too low fuel consumption increases due to additional rolling resistance, and tyre wear may also become excessive and handling will become worse.
Change air filters.
Clogged or blocked air filters can increase the amount of fuel used. They should be in accordance with your vehicles recommended service scheduling and maybe more often if the vehicle is used in adversely dirty climates.
Maintain regular servicing.
Keep your car regularly seviced by a knowledgeable garage. They will be able to address faults like bad engine tuning which could increase fuel consumption and spot faults with the management system, fuel sensors and oxygen sensors; all of which will probably make the vehicles fuel economy worse.
Check your oil.
Simple to do? Yes, but apart from making sure the level in the engine is correct you should also make sure you use the correct grade for the engine. Using the wrong grade can have a very slight affect on the overall fuel economy of your vehicle. The correct engine oil grade should be stated in your owners handbook.
